Birth and Early Days
Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Geogia to
Reverend Martin Luther King, sr. and Alberta Williams King. King, Jr was the
middle child. He had an older sister Willie Christine King and a younger brother
Alfred Daniel William King.
King, jr was originally doubtful of what Christianity claims. Generally about the bodily resurrection of Jesus from around the age of 13 during Sunday School. He stated "doubts began to spring forth unrelentingly", but after maturing and understanding the bible more he came to recognize that the Bible "many profound truths which one
cannot escape" and that is when he decided to enter the seminary (theological collage).
Martin attended Book T. Washington High School in Atlanta growing up. He didn't attended ninth grade and twelfth grade and entered More House College when he was only fifteen. Having not formally graduating from high school, King. Jr graduated from More House with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology in 1948. He then enrolled in Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester, Pennsylvania, from there he graduated with Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1951.
Martin Luther King, Jr then married Coretta Scott on the 18th of June 1953 at her parents house in Heisenberg, Alabama Together they had four children Yoland King, Martin Luther king III, Dexter Scott King and Bernice King.
When King, Jr was only 25 in 1954 he became the pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. He then received his Doctor of Physiology when studying systematic theology at Boston University, on June 5, 1955 with a dissertation on "A comparison of the Conception of God in the Thinking of Paul Tillich and Henry Nelson Wieman".
Inquiry's from the 1980s announced that sections of his dissertation had been plagiarized, in anger of this Martin took inappropriate action however his dissertation still is a significant contribution to scholarship.
